Abstract:
This panel is designed to empower behavior analysts, hiring managers, and agency owners (referred to as “participants”), in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), to discern and substantiate the life experiences of prospective employees as integral components of their success in the field. By attending this panel, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how personal learning histories frequently augment an employee’s professional skill repertoire. These employees tend to be better suited to relate to clients and their families; thereby enhancing treatment progress. Examples of such skills are adaptability, critical thinking, and resilience, among others. These prospective employees possess skills that have been identified as crucial in becoming an effective change agent. They are often overlooked due to minimal traditional work and/or educational experience outlined on their resumes (cite). Recognizing the importance of life skills, participants will learn three actionable strategies to strengthen and support the diverse employee’s current skillset. Participants will walk away empowered with the ability to look at skills derived from lived experiences as a valid skillset, utilize that skills set to further develop skills within those employees and walk away with strategies ready to improve their mentorship skills of these employees.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants and hiring managers will enhance their ability to discern and substantiate life experiences, recognizing them as integral skills correlated with success in the ABA field.

2. Participants and behavior analysts will develop the ability to discern how life experiences contribute to the cultivation of skillsets essential for fostering effective working relationships with diverse clients

3. Behavior Analysts will learn three different strategies to develop and strengthen the skills essential for diverse staff to succeed in the ABA field.
