President Lyndon B. Johnson first introduced National Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968. Congress expanded it from a week to a month long beginning in 1989, after it was amended into public law in 1988 during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. National Hispanic (Latinx) Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries.
Established by the White House in 1987, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is an award-winning nonprofit that identifies, inspires, prepares and positions Latino leaders in the classroom, community and workforce to meet America’s priorities.
Take a look at some of the wonderful and diverse Latinx authors, shows and movies:
Oprah Magazine put together a list of 10 Latinx authors that are a must read.
Netflix is currently running a diverse lineup of shows and movies featuring Latinx content. Buzzfeed put together a list of 20.
The Los Angeles County Library is running a variety of events virtually this year.
